If you want to understand academia today, you have to look into the world of big tech businesses. Much of the necessary labour is done by some of the university’s most loyal costumers. They teach and mark the way social media users feed their platforms with content. Much of the “productive” work, on the other hand, is done by four social types: First, the young entrepreneurs who, protective of their ideas, never stop to pitch business plans to venture capitalists, second, the consultants who either prove some decision-makers’ idea or take the blame if the theory does not work out in practice, third, the machines of reason that mine sheer amounts of data to back up the preferred theories and finally, the managers – mostly white men – who can actually make a living. The last social type does a bit of everything at times but most importantly the policing which is needed to hold the whole business together.
I decided to start a reading blog. My intention is to keep track of what I am reading. Here is also a link to all the books that I would like to read in the future: reading list.
